Youth Service Officers at Connecticut Juvenile Training School are in dismay over the fact that someone tried to sneak a 380 caliber gun into that facility recently. What really has employees in a dither is how CJTS leadership is trying to make it seem as if threats by Unit 4D resident to a male YSO and the gun are not related. It has been verified how threats were made two days before the gun was attempted to be brought in to CJTS. While KeyStone Cops management try to paint public relation pictures of how alert staff found the gun in sneaker box, staff know the full story.
It is the continuous attempts to not tell the full truth -whenever situations like this arise- that infuriates YSOs on the plantation. Then to make matters worse, since the incident happened Superintendent William Rosenbeck has not been visible to the troops, in other words he did not try to make people feel safe. When something like trying to sneak in weapons occur, people generally feel their safety is threatened and need assurance all is well. Sources report that Rosenbeck et al. did not even make some sort of cameo appearance in order to make employees feel secure; it is rumored that these days management types are busy trying to institute new policies regarding wearing similar uniforms at CJTS. It seems as if during a visit by DCF brass, someone noticed YSOs wearing baggy pants. Now baggy bags received more attention than possibility of someone being shot by threatening resident on Unit 4D. If the gun had successfully been delivered to that resident what do readers think would have been the likely outcome ? I forgot, Jonathan Burgos just happened to have the gun in that sneaker box huh?
Yet on the plantation those spinners of public relations want to placate people with jive nostrums and focusing on baggy pants worn by employees. All employees are asking for is security from being shot plus solace from missing in action leadership.
However life on the CJTS Plantation is anything but predictable.

THREATS MADE TO SHOOT YSO THURSDAY, GUN BROUGHT IN SATURDAY
Sources report that last Thursday a resident of Unit 4D at Connecticut Juvenile Training School threatened a black male Youth Service Officer. The resident clearly stated his intent to shoot this particular 10 year employee and others that got in his way. Before that threat was made however, people report that other things were said by this resident of Unit 4D but nothing was followed up on by management. Then two days after the threat on Thursday, the youth almost got his hands on a gun by way of a family member. Jonathan Burgos brought a loaded 380 caliber gun into the facility but did not manage to give it to the resident. He was caught trying to sneak this weapon inside a sneaker box.
People in charge of CJTS do not want the public to know about these details of ongoing threats by residents that have now resulted in trying to sneak in weapons. For years tone deaf administrators have been putting out the narrative about that facility being some sort of Boys Town, Father Flanagen never had to worry about facing gun fire in his facility. The slip shod methods of searches during visits -of both residents and visitors- is what made Burgos think he could slip in a weapon to CJTS. Several years ago emails were sent to officials within CJTS describing how relaxed some searches of residents were after their visit was over. Those emails were obtained through Freedom of Information and posted on DCF Plantation Blog last year. Now after neglecting ways to improve security this latest incident shows how incompetent management is at CJTS; these people cannot run a dog kennel let alone that facility.
Yes on Thursday of last week a resident of Unit 4D threatened a male YSO by saying "you will be shot one day." Then two days later the resident tried to have this 380 caliber gun sneaked into the facility. And this is what management is trying to hide from the public.

TRYING TO PUT A SPIN ON THE STORY WHILE IGNORING REALITY
A man from Brooklyn, NY brought a loaded 380 pistol into the Connecticut Juvenile Training School recently and was caught. Below there is a story about the event plus response from spin doctors on the DCF Plantation. If you read carefully there is no mention about what other employees at CJTS told this blog writer, i.e. a youth on Unit 4D was being bullied and that fear plus anger caused him to seek the weapon. In previous articles it has been pointed out how missing in action supervisors on 4D has led to a sort of ship adrift kind of situation for employees and residents. If your leadership is always out on Worker's Compensation, who is guiding the ship? Another point is this, why did a person feel it was okay to try and sneak the gun into CJTS ? The answer is that for some time now searches of residents inside the visitation room and indeed of visitors were sloppy to say the least [ report from other employees ]. "The fact that Master Control staff caught the gun in the box is lucky say Youth Service Officers. In the past management has been informed that visitation regulations were not adequate." Well. Talking head spin doctor public relations people can talk about how alert staff found the gun and prevented tragedy. However the main point is that CJTS is a facility out of control and in need of new management.
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) - A New York City man has been charged with bringing a loaded gun hidden in a shoebox into Connecticut's detention facility for delinquent boys in an attempt to give it to a relative, state police and child welfare officials said Monday.
Jonathan Burgos, 30, of Brooklyn, was arrested Saturday at the Connecticut Juvenile Training School in Middletown. State police said he tried to sneak in a loaded .380-caliber handgun to give to a detainee, but staff members found the gun in the shoebox during a routine security check.
Burgos was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit and unauthorized conveyance of a weapon into a correctional institution. He was detained on $50,000 bail.
Authorities didn't release other details, including why the detainee would need or want a gun.
Burgos' response to the allegations isn't known. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
The state Department of Children and Families, which runs the training school, said in a statement that a family member of a youth at the facility tried to smuggle in a firearm, but staff members discovered it while following standard safety protocols.
"CJTS staff did outstanding work in maintaining safety for everyone at the facility including the youths and visiting families," the statement said.
The 135-bed training school is the state's only secure facility for boys who have been adjudicated as delinquent and committed to the custody of the Department of Children and Families.

MASSACRE AVOIDED / LOADED 380 GUN AND A VIGILANT STAFF
The reports coming into DCF Plantation blog highlight that a family member tried to sneak a loaded 380 automatic pistol into Connecticut Juvenile Training School on Saturday June 20, 2015 during visiting hours. Sources report the incarcerated youth inside waiting for the 380 gun might have been bullied on Unit 4D and CJTS leadership failed to notice anything amiss with the youth. Also it is reported how those responsible for being in charge of Unit 4D are never at work on a consistent basis and this might be one of several factors that caused alleged bullying to reach critical mass. The State Troopers were called and family member arrested. Now what?? Management is trying to keep the entire incident quiet and this is a typical ploy by Key Stone Cops management.
In conclusion, CJTS employees praised the Master Control person Ann Hickey who discovered the 380 loaded gun inside the sneaker box.
It seems as if at least someone is awake at the DCF PLANTATION

YOUTH THAT TRIED TO SNEAK GUN INTO FACILITY CLAIMS TO HAVE BEEN BULLIED
There are new details that are emerging from Connecticut Juvenile Training School about the attempt to sneak in a gun at that facility. The story has been reported to this blog that a 14 year old incarcerated resident was being bullied on Unit 4D by peers. In trying to deal with the situation the resident planned to have his step father bring a loaded gun inside a sneaker box. The staff working inside Master Control booth searched the box and found this gun. It is reported that the family member trying to get this weapon into CJTS has been arrested : did management try and sweep the incident under the rug?? Youth Services Officers working at CJTS have reported how no information about the incident was passed on to employees or staff.
What also must be looked at critically is how inept management in charge of CJTS allowed lackadaisical policies regarding visiting room searches to allow such a thing to be attempted. There have been instances of contraband being smuggled into CJTS during visits before [ report employees ] but nothing approaching sneaking a gun into this facility. In the past Key Stone Cops management witnessed residents trying to climb over the fence with sheets, white female employee calling residents of color porch monkeys, lawsuits alleging racism and discrimination, right wing white male harassing peers of color plus much more. It is clear that the present CJTS leadership does not effectively run that facility. However, with all the above mentioned incidents [ plus a vote of no confidence against the superintendent ] things continue to spiral out of control with no person seemingly in charge.
In conclusion we have to ask where is the Unit Leader of 4D ?
Did the UL have any idea that this alleged bullying was taking place?
You cannot lead any Unit at CJTS if you are never around or out on Worker Compensation most of the time.

WHERE IS THEIR GOD?
Heaven will never help the man who will not help himself - Sophocles
A white male named Dylann Storm Roof aged 21 entered Emanuel
African Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina and shot to death nine
people on June 17, 2015. The crime occurred during Bible Study while black
people meditated on the Bible and concept of God. While the preacher delivered
a sermon Dylan killed him. In America the news of this horrific event sent
shock waves through the black community; in the house of worship evil struck
innocent people. When racists want to harm blacks they do not acknowledge the
house of God as sacred : four black girls were killed by a bomb in a church during
the Civil Rights movement, churches have been shot up, set on fire and violated
by people intent on keeping blacks in their place.
While watching television about the terrorist act in South
Carolina the familiar scene of blacks huddling for prayer and deliverance
flooded the media channels like CNN or PoliticsNation. As I watched black
people praying, singing, dancing or crying the thought occurred to me of how
this scene is played out over and over. I have to ask black victims of white
terrorism in America this question- where is their God? In theological school
people are taught that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob spoke the universe
into being ex nihilo [ out of nothing ] this denotes power, it is also taught
that this same God can act in history from heaven or wherever the deity
resides. Stories in the Bible depict a supreme deity with the ability to save
his chosen people when they were in dire need. Yet the black man in America
calls upon this same God to deliver them from evil but so far there has been no
reply. Is God on some sort of vacation?
Didn’t God save Moses and the Hebrew people from Pharaoh’s
army?, what about the story of Daniel being placed in the lion cage- only to
have angels shut the animal’s mouth. The prophet Elijah called on God to
deliver signs before false prophets and guess what, fire consumed sacrifices
set up by the prophet of Jehovah. Now all this and more are written down in the
Bible to show how God acts not only in eternity but in time / space. So it
would seem that this is a hands on deity who answers cries of the oppressed-except
when it comes to lamentations of blacks in America. For over 500 years blacks
have suffered all manner of hateful crimes against them by white terrorist :
call the roll, slavery, lynchings, beatings, not allowed to read,
disenfranchised politically and economically. During this dark period in
American history blacks prayed to their God for deliverance. Yet in in recent
history racism and acts against people of color continue. Eric Gardner, Michael
Brown, James Byrd, Tamir Rice, and now nine people killed in the house of the
very God that they were worshipping.
Black people formed outside the AME church in South Carolina
to sing, pray, dance and ask for healing or to make sense of this hateful
crime. In the midst of all of talk of forgiveness and healing someone please
ask black people the question.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR THE HARTFORD 17 - MORAL MONDAY !!
Official Hartford Action Press
Statement
Press Conference in
Support of The Hartford 17
at Hartford Superior
Court House
Wednesday, June 17,
2015 8:30am
Good morning.
My name is Derek Hall, a founding member of the community organizing group
Hartford Action and life-long resident of this city.
I am
honored to be here this morning to stand in solidarity with The Hartford 17. They
have joined a long and powerful legacy of non-violent protesters willing to be
arrested in their demand for justice. These seventeen brave individuals, along
with hundreds of other protesters, came out to support the Moral Monday CT
Black Lives Matter demonstration. They disrupted traffic and business as usual,
bringing awareness and visibility to oppression
that still exists in our society to publically proclaim that Black Lives
Matter.
As we
stand here in front of this court house in downtown Hartford, the capital of
Connecticut, the Constitution State, we must pause and consider the history of
resistance in the fight for justice. We are bound not just by this history, but
by an overwhelming moral obligation to ensure that all people are able to pursue lives of happiness free from the fear
of bondage and destruction. When our liberty has been compromised—as is the
case for so many black and brown communities across this country—we must speak out against injustice.
The
Hartford 17 have done just that. They stood together: facing traffic, public
misunderstanding and even arrest, proclaiming that Black Lives Matter. Too many
in our community are refused access to quality education; too many have been
victimized by lack of job opportunities leaving little options other than
alternative “criminal” economies; too many have been economically and socially railroaded
into prison systems—too many have been beaten and killed. Clearly, too many in
our society do not understand the value of black lives.
In true
patriotic, freedom fighter form The Hartford 17, ordinary people from all different
walks of life, stood up and said, “Enough,” and, “No more.” This was their
action—and in doing so, they have sent out a call to each one of us. When
business as usual continues, black lives continue to be criminalized and killed.
The Hartford 17 have said no more to
business as usual, and this disruption, however inconvenient, requires us all to
stop and take notice. Do not dismiss
their actions even if you do not agree with their methods.
The
problems of racism and white supremacy are deep and complex. The solutions must
be equally complex. Maybe you were one of those standing arm-in-arm in the
middle of the street; maybe you were one of those frustrated as you were stuck
in traffic; or maybe you were simply sitting at home confused as to why anyone
would risk arrest—no matter who you are, your participation is needed in this
movement.
Hartford
Action was created to empower communities to advocate for progressive policy
changes and improve the relationship between the Greater Hartford community and
the criminal justice system. We stand in support of The Hartford 17and any effort
which promotes the value of black and brown lives. We want to thank you for that work.

REFLECTIONS OF A FIRST ARREST
Reflections of a First Arrest
My cousin Shelley has been joking with me ever since Occupy, “So, have you been arrested yet?” Until recently, the answer was always no. But things change…..
I am sharing this account of my arrest along with 16 other activists who chose to participate in an act of Civil Disobedience for countless other activists who have yet to go through the experience. I hope it helps in making the decision of whether or not to volunteer for arrest.
On Monday, June 8, 2015 we took to a major intersection in Hartford CT and held our position. Our signs and our voices proclaimed that Black Lives Matter. A notice from Moral Monday CT had announced an action but I wasn’t certain until I arrived what that action would be. When I arrived, a contingent was already in place, stretching across the crosswalk and blocking traffic, forcing police to redirect the flow. Sidewalks and above- street walkways were crowded with on-lookers. Familiar chants filled the air and I found myself in the company of amazing, dedicated, everyday people, some of whom I already knew and many of whom I was meeting for the first time. I took up the end of a large banner being held by a young man and together we faced in one direction of on-coming traffic. A white female passenger in a large car that was slowly making its way past us looked at my young partner and me and said “We should just run them all down.” As much as I wanted to respond with a hearty “Fuck you, lady!” I instead wished her a nice day, remembering that were all there representing not only a cause but also each other.
Those of us stretched across the road were a diverse crowd. Religious leaders from Christian and Unitarian churches, Pagans (yours truly), white people, black people, men, women, young people and older people, working people, retired people, students, experienced activists with a personal knowledge of what it means to get arrested and others, like myself, who were about to find out. I was at once feeling defiant and scared, brave and intimidated, certain and wondering what I was getting myself into. Internally, I kept asking if I was doing the right thing, if the risk of whatever lay ahead was worth it. The answer kept coming back with a “Hell yeah!” I was with leaders I respect and trust, people from the Hartford community from whom I continue to learn about engaging as an ally. What better time and what better cause could ever present itself for me to take the plunge?
I was on the street for approximately an hour when the moment of decision making arrived. An announcement was made that HPD was on the way to arrest anyone who did not clear the street. So Debra, what’s it gonna be? Two things helped me decide to stay. The first was the statement from one of our event leaders that there’d be “no hatin’ on anyone who decides to step back”. It made me realized that I was solely responsible for my decision and it was one that I and I alone, had to be proud of. The second was Sofia, the magnificently energized woman standing next to me, holding my hands as we all linked together. I recognized a friend on the sidewalk and I broke rank long enough to give her some belongings that I asked her to take for safe keeping. Returning to the line, I was greeted by Sofia’s hug, beaming smile and statement that she knew I’d be back.
Shortly after 5:00 p.m. HPD arrived and one by one we were led peacefully to the vans – women in one, men in another. As I got closer to the van and realized this was actually going down, my fist rose into the air as automatically as I breathe and from that moment on my warrior Goddess was engaged.
My first frisk… good grief. A female officer grabbed the front center of my bra over my shirt and gave it a shake. No ma’am, I’m not hiding weapons in my bra, I thought to myself. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to publicly rearrange myself. Into the van we went along a long narrow seat. The vans were divided and separated down the middle by a floor to ceiling wall so there’s not much room in front of the seats and people’s knees. Nor are there seat belts. One by one, my new family joined me and we had a limited view of what was happening outside. What we COULD see very clearly were the small streaks of dried blood on the van’s center wall directly in front of us. I asked one of the officers if there was any disinfectant spray to get rid of it. The answer… “No, we don’t have anything like that but don’t worry. It won’t hurt you. Just don’t touch it.” Very nice. If this was found on an ambulance there would certainly be consequences.
We arrived at the police station at approximately 5:30 and were immediately told to sit down and remove the shoe laces from our shoes. Really? Really?????????? Laces, belts, jewelry, personal possessions all went into sealed plastic bags that were tagged with our names. When this little bit of business was finished we were frisked again. I asked about the chances that we really had armed ourselves during transport but got no answer. The cops had much less of a sense of humor than the rest of us. Following the frisk, eight of us were put in a cell and I heard the proverbial clank of the door slamming shut and there we were – eight women, some of us strangers before that afternoon, now facing charges and unsure of how long we’d be there together. We were black, white and Hispanic, straight and lesbian and we all began to share who we were and why we were there. It is also where we began to check in with each other to make sure everyone was doing okay. Woman power was in the house!
We were all called out one by one for mug shots and finger printing and signing papers. Finger prints are done electronically these days. It was busy and at times the cops looked frazzled, one not knowing what the other was doing. We did nothing to provoke them but neither did we do anything to make their jobs easier. And then came the famous phone call! Never in my life before activism took over did I imagine that I’d be making “that” call. I called home, said I was in the pokey and had no idea at all of how long I’d be there – I’d call when I was out. I was then returned to the cell.
One of the things we talked about in that cell was whether or not we would post bail or elect to stay if they decided to keep us. It was a unanimous decision to stay. One of our group was bailed out by her wife before they had a chance to talk about it and when she asked if she could refuse the posted bail and stay she was told no. She left with hugs and assurance that we’d keep her with us in spirit. After some time, they began to call us out and told us were being transferred to a different jail. At first I thought that applied to everyone but they only took four of us and I still don’t know why. It was at this point that the experience escalated on the emotion scale because not only was there a third frisk but I became personally acquainted with metal shackles. Yes, metal shackles used on prisoners who pose dangerous threats, shackles used on ‘bad’ people. With my hands up on the wall in front of me and my feet spread behind me, I was told to lift first one leg and then the other. It was at this point that I called out to the women still behind in the cell that “the shit gets real now” and I looked at the cop who was shackling me with another “Really??????” Before being loaded into the van, three of us were also shackled together by the wrists along a chain. I was horrified and amused at the same time and thought of scenes from movies where escapees had to get rid of their chains in order to make their get-away.
When we got to the second destination we were unshackled at our wrists but the ankle jewelry remained. Here’s important information: Metal shackles, no matter how loose around bare ankles, hurt when you walk. Wear socks! We were also frisked again. They really like that. We were put into a cell and waited for an explanation of what would come next. We again talked about ourselves, checked in with each other and used humor to pass the time in a cell that was too cold, with a toilet that afforded a view of the sitter’s left leg to people outside the cell. We had to ask for toilet paper and there was no soap to use with the ice cold water that trickled from the sink. They fed us two sandwiches. One was white bread with one slice of American cheese and the other was white bread with two slices of something that was supposed to be baloney. We asked if we could order from the GMO and gluten free menus but once again, our sense of humor was far superior to theirs. Seriously, no consideration was made for health or religious food requirements. Not all of us ate. It was during this time that we talked at length about the relative ease with which we were able to handle our incarceration compared to the terror that might be faced by a young black boy or black man locked up for little or no reason. How different would their treatment be? What were the chances they’d be released in any reasonable time? What were the chances they’d even make it as far as we did after being arrested? That was, after all, part of the reason we stood our ground on the street.
We asked for the time when we were visited by a woman from the court who was there to interview us in order to determine whether or not we would be held or let out on a PTA (Promise to Appear). It was 8:15 p.m. We answered questions about our age, place of birth, education, drug or alcohol use, whether we rent or own our homes, how long we’ve lived there, whether or not we have health insurance and if so, with what company, whether we were employed and if so where, did we have any children and if so, did they live with us. She said she’d be back with an answer in about an hour and a half or so. She was way too perky for my mood and I was happy to see her go. Up to this point officers only came by the cell once every 15 minutes to check on us but shortly after Ms. Perky left, a female officer came by and seemed to want to “chat”. “So, why are you here?” “We participated in the Black Lives Matter event.” “Black Lives Matter…. What is that?” “You work in this building and you surely know what Black Lives Matter refers to.” She tried to engage us in a conversation about good cops and bad cops and our combined sense was that she was trying to test whether or not we were really candidates for being let out on a PTA. I honestly believe that her job was to identify which of us were trouble makers and should be kept in jail. We didn’t cooperate. We stopped participating in conversation. She lost. I was happy to see her go, also. We seemed to simultaneously realize that volunteering information and trusting in the apparent good will of officers was not in our best interest. I offer that as an important point to be remembered by anyone who is arrested for the first time. Officers who have you locked behind bars are not your friends and you are not guests at their party.
Ultimately it was determined that we were not threats to national security, that we wouldn’t run for the hills causing a national woman-hunt and that we could be transported back to our first jail to be released without threat to the community. But first… we had to be frisked again! Shackles reappeared on our wrists. We made our way to the van and back to our starting point. The cops there greeted us with relief that one of us in particular was okay because information was being posted on facebook that she was sick and they weren’t allowing her access to her medications. For the record, that didn’t happen. Our belongings were returned to us and we left by the side entrance. It was approximately 10:45 p.m.
As a group of our fellow arrestees and other supporters, after standing vigil outside the station until our release, greeted us with welcoming hugs and a bit of joyous noise, I thought of the word “family” a lot. I was grateful for every single one of the people there. It was then that we learned that the four of us women were the last to be let go. As anxious as I was to get home and begin the process of sorting out everything that happened, I also wanted to stay there for a while with these people to whom I was now connected in an indescribable way. The power of community and shared vision is what keeps us strong. It is a power which can make an experience such as this one less (if only slightly) intimidating. It is a power which reminds us that as activists, what we do is important enough to risk the indignities of arrest.
We are all due in court on June 17th. Prior to that we are meeting for a debriefing of what we’ve shared so far and what we can expect when we go to court. At that meeting I’ll be asking about possible reasons why four of us were singled out for prolonged detention, separated from the rest of our group. I will also ask for advice on the best way to follow up on that nasty bit of blood in the van business. It’s not over until it’s over… my warrior Goddess is still engaged.

BLACK MALE ASSAULTED ON UNIT 6B, THEN PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE
A black male Youth Service Officer at Connecticut Juvenile Training School was assaulted on Unit 6B recently. All the details of what happened are not yet clear about the assault on this YSO. However the YSO named Greg is the latest casualty in the unrelenting war on black male employees in the DCF Plantation system. Greg is currently on administrative leave with pay while certain administrators determine his fate ( continual narrative in America ) and filter the black man's action through a white worldview. Sources report this is the 3rd staff member that has been assaulted on Unit 6B, what is going on??
The administration within DCF use black male employees to help keep incarcerated residents under control. When there is trouble with residents the white hierarchy summons black male employees to do the hands on restraints etc. Then these same Monday Morning quarterbacks-look at video footage to determine if any errors were made by staff. While eating their third doughnut / drinking espresso coffee and using magical formulas [ worthy of Merlin the Magician ], decisions are made to place black males on administrative leave.
I wonder when those cringing YSOs will finally organize in order to fight those in DCF leadership who target black male employees for discipline, outside the scope of what is done to other ethnic groups.
Do #BlackLivesMatter on the DCF/ CJTS Plantations????

ALLEGATION OF IMPROPER RESIDENT AND EMPLOYEE RELATIONSHIP WAS IGNORED BY MANAGEMENT
The rumors are floating around at Connecticut Juvenile Training School about an improper resident and employee relationship. What is interesting is how blog stories hinted at this sort of thing last year but CJTS Key Stone Cops management ignored the whole thing, swept it under the rug from sight. The Youth Service Officer accused in the allegation has since been removed from the male facility but sent to the Pubelo Girl's Unit, run by those same brilliant minds that allowed this thing to get out control at CJTS. Well so much for protecting the welfare of youth at those two facilities.

COLLUSION BY PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS TO DESTROY HARTFORD'S #BLACKLIVESMATTER MOVEMENT
The recent activity by public officials and community
leaders to proclaim and supposedly end shooting violence in Hartford has a nice
ring to it. All of a sudden religious leaders, community activists, imported
activists from other geographical locations, public / elected officials are
involved in getting out an anti-violence message. Praise de Lawd for that !
However there are deeper more sinister reasons behind all the hoopla to end
violence in Hartford--- to destroy the local #BLACKLIVESMATTER movement.
Bishop John Selders and wife Pamela Selders were and still
are involved with the movement in Ferguson, Missouri where black youth Michael
Brown was gunned down by a white police officer. They were there through tear
gas, rubber bullets, and of course the uprising among hoi polloi ( common
people ). Bishop Selders and wife together helped start #BLACKLIVESMATTER dialogue
and activity in Hartford to proclaim that state sanctioned violence –in the
guise of police shootings- against black people will not be tolerated. These
two spiritual and educated people helped organize protests and die- ins at
Downtown City Hall in the lobby. Vigils were held in front of Hartford Police
Headquarters, and recently a rally in Unity Plaza on Barbour Street proclaiming
#BLACKLIVESMATTER was held for hoi polloi. These activities and outpouring of
support for more direct action against police brutality plus positive responses
from grassroots neighborhood folks have power brokers scared.
THE BACKGROUND OF #BLACKLIVESMATTER HARTFORD
After Michael Brown’s death people wanted to have some kind
of meaningful action and protest in Hartford. There were no signs of activists
planning strong responses only the same marching, praying or singing –
conducted by the usual suspects. A type of strong response manifested itself
when Luis Anglero ( male of color) was
tasered by Hartford Police in 2015 for –what video revealed- nothing. Minister Cornell Lewis and Rabbi Donna Berman
et al. organized 100 people and marched into HPD demanding justice for Luis;
this was the beginning of some type of #BLACKLIVESMATTER conceptually. Then
when Michael Brown’s killer did not get charged with any crime people became
angry all over America and took to the streets venting. Reverend Josh Pawelek
and Minister Cornell Lewis organized an event in Bushnell Park while the majority
of activists, now seeking media attention plus favor of white power brokers
were missing in action. However when Bishop Selders organized people into a #BLACKLIVESMATTER
coalition things started changing in the community ; now white power brokers
took notice, several anti-violence Negro preachers attached themselves to large
crowds like ( lampreys) at rallies in downtown Harford churches, organized by
Selders and those people wanting true reform against killings of black men.
Power brokers saw all of this activity from black people not under their
control and became concerned. Therefore plans were hatched to destroy Selders
et al. #BLACKLIVESMATTER movement. And this was accomplished by creating parallel
movements with Negro leaders that are deemed pliable (easily influenced by
others ) by the power structure.
THE COLLUSION TO DESTROY #BLACKLIVESMATTER HARTFORD
Bishop Selders et al. worked tirelessly and organized a
die-in at Hartford City Hall. However before this happened the white power
structure began machinations to dismantle any true revolutionary movement by
#BLACKLIVESMATTER Hartford. Certain leaders were utilized to head large rallies
under the guise of #BLACKLIVESMATTER, heck these leaders assembled hundreds of
folks who believed that marching through Hartford’s Northend was about #BLACKLIVESMATTER
until the illusion was dropped. What the march was really about manifested
itself in a patriarchal shouting and expectorating come to Jesus session. Any
concern for black lives came secondary after copious prayers, chants and
deception were foisted on the people marching. Next power brokers helped Negro
leaders bring in outside professional activists with power points, money, and
agenda to help organize not #BLACKLIVESMATTER resistance to police killing people
of color. Oh no, no, no, these activists claimed to be steering Hartford
towards goal oriented solutions. Say what ? And these solutions steered away
from any confrontational dialogue or actions that might cause white power
brokers to feel uncomfortable.
Meetings between youth and police took place, meetings
between outside organizers and community occurred, fancy posters went up in
Hartford’s Northend while Town Hall meetings in the main library in Downtown
Hartford gave everyone warm fuzzy feeling that flowed freely. Man I can hear
brother James Brown singing at that library “ everything gone be alrighttt.”
Apparently white power brokers thought their efforts along with minion activists
in tow was enough to destroy Bishop Selders movement-but it was not. The
#BLACKLIVESMATTER movement continued to hold rallies and inform people about
state sanctioned police killings of black folks, and how systemic structures
had to be addressed to stop true terrorists in this country from killing
innocent people. With those thoughts in mind Bishop Selders called for a JUNE
8, 2015 #BLACKLIVESMATTER demonstration at 4pm behind the old State House in
Downtown Hartford –on the square below. It is at this point the truth came out
about plans to destroy #BLACKLIVESMATTER in Hartford.
THE LATEST PLAN OF THE ENEMY
When the June 8th date became public knowledge
something had to be done to divert attention from #BLACKLIVESMATTER Hartford.
Then a number of shootings in Hartford provide white power brokers with the
answer they needed. Under the guise of Stop The Violence numerous campaigns were
placed into action in order to confuse the populace plus give white power
brokers high visibility. Not to mention cramming all of this into the public
domain before Selders June 8th demonstration. Deception began when
Governor Malloy came down from the big house to partake of native victuals at a
local eatery frequented by black folk. Ah what a picture of the Gov. with
cavernous maw consuming native cuisine as Sammy Sunshine grins beamed approval.
Then as the Gov. Malloy walked into the native’s natural habitat on Barbour
Street some of those leaders were close to buck dancing like Bill Bojangles
Robinson in the movie Stormy Weather. Secondly, trotted out leaders were seen
on television riding with HPD officers in simulated events to depict how strenuous
/ dangerous such work can be. However this is only the beginning of obfuscation
by white power brokers and Negroes in collusion. Now let us switch to scenes of
patriarchal ( am I the only one to notice one woman in that crowd ?) meetings
of leaders with the Mayor of Hartford to discuss shootings in the city. Now to
top it all off separate meetings held to discuss violence and solutions to it
are held in serene settings with the Police chief and other officials in attendance.
Where were other community members ( who were not at this special meeting ) who
I have to honestly say have struggled long and hard to highlight violence in
the city ?
Last but not least is this next gem of deception by white
power brokers / people of color. Clergy in Hartford did not actually support
Bishop Selders but are NOW coming out in support of stopping violence in
Hartford. Such suddenly visibility has to be questioned by someone. Highly
visible rallies, marches, and press conferences are due to be held over the
weekend and up until June 6th. Now remember Bishop Selders plans
demonstrations June 8th. The sudden interest by local clergy in something other
than offerings in their collection plates or writhing on the church floor about
Jesus is amazing. Perhaps it is because in order to enhance efforts designed to
destroy Bishop Selders #BLACKLIVESMATTER movement, people brought in Rev. Al
Sharpton as a ruse. Sharpton can certainly polarize people and provoke strong
feelings of praise or anger. I am not her to denounce Rev. Sharpton he is
getting beat on enough for proclaiming what he feels is the truth. What I am
saying though is that monies were procured to secure Sharpton, to attend this
June 6th event, in order for the thinking processes of ordinary
folks to be bamboozled by (as the Isley Brothers sang in Fight the Power ) ALL
this “ bullshit going down” leading up to Bishop Selders event June 8th
event.
Well folks there you have it. How the enemy and our own
black folk are trying to destroy #THEBLACKLIVESMATTER movement in Hartford.

STATE AND CITY OFFICIALS PLAYING TROTTED OUT LEADERSHIP OF COLOR LIKE A VIOLIN
The images in local media with leaders of color hobnobbing with city and state politicians have been cropping up for weeks. There they are, black and Hispanic leaders, fawning over elected officials walking in their neighborhood; or trying to get close enough in the photo-op at City Hall with politicians. All over the Greater Hartford area politicians have come to realize that certain black or brown faces might be needed in the war over controlling the narrative about police-- community relations. Hell, all of a sudden we see Hartford Police and City Hall officials with the masses. It is clear leaders of color are being used, but to what end ??
Violence directed toward people of color by state sanctioned officers of the law is nothing new in America. A perusal of history books describes in detail how local governments conspired to harm/ kill people of color. Since highly publicized killings of Tamir Rice, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, et al. demonstrations have erupted all over these United States. Now those areas that are not under constant protest like Hartford, Connecticut are fearful of the "Great Awakening" of the unwashed masses, who might seek justice in the streets ( the Lord knows justice is not to be found in courts or the laws of political operatives ). This is where the machinations of local power brokers come in. After scanning the horizon for possible outbreaks of trouble due to issues of brutality, politicians made calculated decisions how to " head off trouble at the pass." In the Old Testament book of Exodus, Pharaoh realized the Hebrews were growing numerous and confident. Then Pharaoh said "let us deal wisely with them." Dealing wisely with leaders of color is exactly what local power brokers are doing in Hartford to fabricate the narrative police et al. are trying to build bridges to bring peace to the city. Yeah okay ! In recent weeks community forums are held with teens and police, politicians walk with community leaders in the Northend, city leaders finally meet with certain leaders over shootings / violence. Is everyone blind ? Are these trotted out leaders aware of what is going on, that is, being played like violins in order for white based power structures to look good before the unwashed masses ??
Now before the clergy [ right Reverends ] and other leaders start calling me names or looking at me out the side of their faces, please take note of my next words. If leaders in the black or Hispanic community are truly "seeking the welfare of the city" then God bless them for doing so. I have no problem with trying to stop carnage and killing. However, I do have issues when so called intelligent leadership of color are played like chumps by white officials and their minions. Now the previous statement presupposes that leadership of color does not know they are viewed by whites as chumpzilla. It very well could be that these black and brown pillars of the area want or need to be in the limelight. And ergo sing Bill Withers song "I just want to spread the news, if it feels this good getting used. Just keep on using me, till you use me up."
" If your enemy's a man of conscience and honor, you can touch his heart
And he'll show you mercy,
But this man,
Is a savage."
